Andrew Dockerill

Andrew was awarded Member of the Month for helping out at both of the Big Bang fairs that IFST participated in this year, promoting food science to students aged 7-16

How does it feel to be recognised as ‘Member of the Month’?

Its a very satisfying yet overwhelming feeling as I am sure there are much more worthy recipients!

Why do you think it’s important to be a part of IFST as a student?

IFST provides such a vast wealth of knowledge to a newcomer to the industry like myself and also provide sources to expand my developing academic knowledge. In addition, the potential networking opportunities are immense and allow a fantastic way to assist in getting your foot into the door of the food industry.

What did you enjoy most about the Big Bang fairs?

The excitement/repulse on the children's faces when they saw/ate the crickets and mealworms!

You’ve just finished your placement year, how was that?

This was a year of incredible 'hands on' experience in the food industry and allowed me to gain a vast insight into how smaller, family owned food manufacturers deal with QA/Technical duties in comparison to my theoretical understanding.

Any plans for the summer?

Enjoying being back home with friends and getting back into playing and coaching cricket and a holiday to Sardinia. I am also lucky enough to have attained a summer experience position working with Authenticate IS, a quickly expanding company aiming to create true transparency in the food supply chain.
