Single-use plastic items such as plates, cutlery and straws will be banned in the EU under plans provisionally agreed between European Parliament and Council.
This agreement also provides for a 90% collection target for plastic bottles by 2029 and a 25% target for recycled content in plastic bottles by 2025 and 30% by 2030 as well as mandatory labelling on the negative environmental impact of other products such as plastic cups.
The provisional agreement will have to be endorsed by both Parliament and Council to become law. The Environment committee will vote on the text in January 2019.
