The South East Young Scientist Competition was held at London Metropolitan University on 09 May 2018. The evening consisted of two competitions - an undergraduate and a postgraduate competition, with current UK-based students competing for a £250 prize + 1 year's membership to SCI.
The undergraduate competition was won by Abigail Bourne from Sheffield Hallam University. Her presentation on the impact of salt reduction on salt perception was well researched and extremely well delivered.
The winner of the postgraduate competition was Laury Sellem from the University of Reading who impressed the judges with her presentation on a food-chain approach to reduce saturated fat in dairy products.
There was an additional 'best presentation' prize which was awarded to Dalia Gala of Glasgow University for her presentation on genetic testing to eliminate livestock disease.
Congratulations to all the students who delivered presentations and a big thank you to our judges.
