Are you a Member or Fellow who could contribute a few hours each month to assess applications? The Membership Assessment Panel is currently looking to recruit new assessors to help with the increasing number of applications for membership and the expansion of our professional registers.
An assessor's role involves examining new applications to determine eligibility for Membership (MIFST) and Fellowship (FIFST), and the Science Council's Registers - Chartered Scientist, Registered Scientist and Registered Science Technician. It may also involve scrutinising registrants' CPD records as part of the Science Council's annual revalidation process. The time commitment will vary but we anticipate that assessors will be asked to review a maximum 3 or 4 applications per month, in addition to attending 2-3 virtual meetings a year with other assessors. Full training will be provided.
The following are essential qualities required for the role:
- ensuring confidentiality at all times
- be either a Fellow or Member of IFST
- possess good analytical skills; experience of assessment or recruitment and selection processes is desirable but not essential
- possess good communication skills
These roles are voluntary; however, expenses (travel, when necessary) will be paid in accordance with IFST expenses policy if required.
Assessors play a crucial role for IFST and becoming an assessor demonstrates your commitment to the sector and your community of professionals. Applications are welcomed from any sections of our community, from production, manufacturing, regulation, academia, or consultancy. If this is something that you are interested in, please apply by sending a brief CV to Sophie Dumville (Registration and Assessment Manager).
