Following a public consultation, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has finalised the protocol it will use to establish dietary reference values (DRVs) for sodium.
The protocol will determine how EFSA’s nutrition experts select and use evidence in their assessment. It will be applied to the sections of the scientific opinion covering: the assessment of possible relationships between sodium intake and health outcomes; and the integration of different lines of evidence for setting DRVs.
A second public consultation will be held in 2019, when the final draft of the scientific opinion is ready.
