As part of the SIGMA project, EFSA has published a new report to make the process of collecting data on animal diseases in the European Union more agile. The report proposes an approach that optimises the way data are gathered by Member States and submitted to EFSA for analysis and reporting.
EFSA regularly collects data from Member States on animal diseases such as African swine fever, lumpy skin disease or avian influenza, which are then analysed for risk assessment purposes. However, these data are often difficult to compare and analyse because they are collected using different methods and reported in different languages.
The proposed approach automatically translates data collected by Member States into a common language and stores them logically.
